Experience

Hi there! I am a qualified tutor and my specialty is working with younger children. I have my degree in Elementary Education and graduated from Florida Atlantic University in December 2000. I am also a certified tutor through the Palm Beach County School Board. I have been a private tutor since 2008, and the primary subjects I teach are spelling, reading, grammar, writing, phonics and math. My goal, when teaching children, is to make learning fun. I also want them to truly understand what I am teaching rather than just memorizing it. I have found when the student and I understand each other and are able to have an open dialogue, it furthers their desire to learn. I have had great success with this method. I have a love for reading and always try to inspire my kids to read books about something that they love. During the summers, especially, we can take the time to find topics that each child is truly interested in. I have found that this helps to re-inspire them for the upcoming school year, because they have been able to truly enjoy the process of learning how to read. I believe that this will set them up for a lifetime of enjoying the process of learning.

Hobbies

As well as teaching children, I also have a passion for nutrition. My family raised my sister and me to always eat healthy food. Because of this, I grew up always wanting to learn more about the human body as it relates to the mind, as they are synergistic. This has benefited me greatly when I teach students. My motto is, a “healthy body is a healthy mind.” I have found when children have a healthy diet, as well as exercise, their minds are more focused. When my students and I take a break during our lessons, I like to take them out for a five minute walk, jumping jacks or something of this nature. By doing this, it hits a sort of reset button and I have found they concentrate for a longer period of time and the results of the assignment are far better as well. I was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida. Growing up, I always loved taking care of young children and as a result I became a nanny for many years. I find it very rewarding when I see children become excited every time they learn something new. They became so proud of themselves, which gives them the self-confidence to want to learn more. I was able to witness at a young age, not only how children learned but what gave them the motivation to continue learning. Experiences like these, have given me the desire to always find new ways to teach. I find that much of the time, coming up with new ways to teach is not even planned, it just happens naturally. I think this is a great way to teach, as each child’s personality is unique and depending on each child, different things motivate them. I am truly thankful that I was a nanny when I was younger, because it gave me an inside look at the mind of a child, and helped me become a great teacher.
